Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced this Thursday that the largest Arab country by population will see its lowest population growth rate in 50 years in 2023.
This is what is clear from the ministry’s press release, which presents the results of the “Egyptian National Family Development Project”, in the context of the government’s efforts to limit the rate of population growth.
The ministry said in a statement that the country “has achieved great success in reducing the population growth rate by around 46% between 2017 and 2023”, from 2.6% in 2017 to 1.4% in 2023.
The same source added that the population growth rate in 2023 was 1.4%, which is “the lowest rate of population growth in the last 50 years”.
According to the Egyptian ministry, “the number of births in 2023 was about 2 million, which is a 15% decrease compared to 2018 and a 7% decrease compared to 2022.”
He considers these results as the culmination of efforts to reduce the country’s population growth rates.
The ministry noted that the country has adopted “a number of measures, including the Egyptian National Family Development Project.”
