Toyota will close the factory that produces the Corolla sedan in Brazil

With the new round of investments in Brazil, Toyota will move the production of the Corolla (which will not be interrupted) to Sorocaba (SP)

Toyota will have major changes in Brazil in the coming years. In addition to the announcement that it will invest $11 billion in the country by 2030, the Japanese automaker also announced that it will move production from the Indaiatuba (SP) plant – which currently only produces the Corolla sedan – to Sorocaba (SP). But that doesn’t mean the model will be discontinued anytime soon. Quite the opposite.

The change is due to the expansion of the production capacity of the Sorocaba (SP) plant, which already produces the Corolla Cross, Yaris Hatch and Sedan models. With almost all of the national line made there, it seems to be a more economically viable solution from a logistics and production cost perspective.

However, Toyota has not revealed what it will do with the factory after it closes. It is not yet known whether the facility will receive part of the investments to accommodate the new models, or whether it will be used for corporate purposes or even sold, like the old unit in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), which closed its doors in November 2023. .

In any case, the Toyota Corolla should still have a long life in Brazil. This is because the Japanese brand will start producing batteries and electric motors in the country, which should reduce the costs of hybrid versions of the midsize sedan. Furthermore, Toyota has previously stated that it will produce the next generation Corolla in Brazil.
