Gaza: Another Palestinian child starves to death in the besieged enclave

AA / Istanbul / Mohammad Sio

A Palestinian child died of malnutrition in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, raising the death toll from starvation in the besieged enclave to 30, the official Wafa news agency reported.

The child died of extreme malnutrition and dehydration at Kamal Advani Hospital in Beit Lahia city, northern Gaza Strip, Wafa said, citing medical sources.

The agency does not specify the age of the victim.

His death brings to 30 the number of Palestinians who have died of starvation in the besieged enclave since last October, according to Palestinian figures.

Israel is launching a deadly military offensive against the Palestinian enclave following an Oct. 7 cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas that killed an estimated 1,200 Israelis, according to Tel Aviv authorities. Aviv.

Since then, 32,552 Palestinians have been killed and 74,980 wounded, according to the latest report released by Palestinian health authorities.

The Israeli army also imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip, exposing most of the population, especially those in the north, to starvation.

Israel’s war, now in its 174th day, has displaced 85 percent of Gaza’s population due to acute shortages of food, drinking water and medicine, and 60 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the United Nations.

Israel is being prosecuted at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the crime of genocide. An order issued in January ordered Tel Aviv to cease acts of a genocidal nature and to take measures to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.
