The American Central Command (Centcom) announced the destruction of 4 Houthi aircraft that targeted an American ship in the Red Sea at dawn on Thursday.
CENTCOM explained in a statement that US Central Command was able to “identify and destroy 4 long-range drones launched by Iran-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen” on Wednesday morning.
And to emphasize that the drones were targeting a US ship that was in turn “acting in self-defense” in the Red Sea region.
No casualties or damage were reported on US ships or by the Prosperity Guardian coalition in the region, the press release said.
Centcom said these measures are being taken to protect freedom of navigation and ensure the safety of international waters for US Navy and commercial vessels.
There was no comment from the Houthi group on this topic.
Since the start of this year, the Washington-led Guardian of Prosperity coalition has launched raids, it said, on Houthi targets in various regions of Yemen in response to their attacks in the Red Sea.
In “solidarity with Gaza,” which is facing a devastating American-backed war against Israel, the Houthis are targeting with missiles and drones, Israeli cargo ships or those linked to them in the Red Sea.
With Washington and London intervening and tensions escalating last January, the Houthis said they now consider all US and British ships among their military targets.
