An Israeli held hostage by the Hamas group for two months reports having suffered sexual violence

She was the first victim to recount firsthand the sexual crimes committed by the terrorist group against its victims

An Israeli woman, held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip for 54 days, claimed to have been the victim of sexual violence during the abduction. Amit Soussana She is 40 years old and gave an interview to the New York Times to talk about the crimes inflicted on her. She was the first victim to recount firsthand the sexual crimes committed by the terrorist group against hostages.

Amit was kidnapped on October 7, 2023, in the first Hamas attack that started the war. She lived alone at the site of the attack and, when she heard sirens indicating an attack, she hid in her room. She heard the sound of gunshots and, shortly after, the terrorists blew down her door and took her away.

The woman was only released on November 30, following negotiations. She said that during her captivity, she was taken to a place where she was trapped in a room along with children and chained. Sometimes, the man responsible for guarding the room would enter the room, lift her blouse and touch her.

She was on her period and the man repeatedly asked her when her period would end. She reported that she pretended to still be menstruating for a week after it stopped.

Around October 24, Amit said he took her to the bathroom to wash herself. There, after taking a shower, he groped and attacked her. With a gun pointed at her head, she was taken into a room. There, she forced her to have sexual intercourse with him.

According to the New York Times, Amit’s accounts are consistent with the description he gave to two doctors and a social worker after his release. Reports from health workers delved into the nature of the sexual act, but this was not revealed.

Amit was afraid that he would not be released

When Amit was released, he left with 105 other hostages. While she was being kidnapped, she was recorded by Hamas and she pretended to be treated well. She, the Israeli, revealed that she did it out of fear of no longer being free.

Now she claims that she decided to speak openly because she wants everyone to know the conditions in which the hostages are in the hands of the terrorist group. It is estimated that more than a hundred hostages are still imprisoned.
