US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said “all residents of Gaza are experiencing severe levels of food insecurity”, underscoring the “priority” of providing humanitarian aid to the besieged strip.
This was announced by Blinken at a press conference held on Tuesday with Philippine Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo in the capital Manila and attended by an Anadolu correspondent.
Blinken said at a press conference that “100% of the population of Gaza is facing acute levels of food insecurity.”
Blinken said the UN report confirmed the “priority of aid to Gaza”.
Yesterday, Monday, the United Nations Integrated Classification of Food Security report stated that “all residents of Gaza suffer from very acute levels of food insecurity.”
The report said that “half of Gaza’s population, or 1.1 million people, have completely exhausted their food supplies and coping skills,” explaining that they are “suffering from catastrophic hunger (the fifth and final stage of the classification) and starvation.” This is reported by the “UN News” website.
Blinken’s comments came after the US State Department said its secretary would travel to Saudi Arabia and Egypt this week to discuss efforts to reach an agreement between Hamas and Israel on an “immediate” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Blinken’s visit to Saudi Arabia and Egypt is “part of a wider tour that includes Austria, South Korea and the Philippines,” without specifying a specific date.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war in the Gaza Strip, which has caused tens of thousands of casualties, mostly children and women, massive destruction of infrastructure and a humanitarian disaster, for which Israel has been referred to the International Court of Justice. Justice for crimes of “genocide”.
