Public services across France will go on strike this Tuesday to demand better pay conditions at the call of several trade unions.
Announced on February 24 by an inter-union union that brings together the CGT (General Confederation of Labour), CFDT (French Confederation of Labour), CFE-CGC (Confederation of French Management – General Confederation of Executives), Autonomous Federation, Labor Forces, UNSA (Union of National Autonomous Trade Unions) Solidaires and Snes-FSU (National Union of Secondary Education), the mobilization affects the entire public sector, representing up to 5.7 million civil servants.
In a press release, the trade union organizations condemned the “lack of public measures to increase salaries in the public service, still in the conditions of persistent inflation” and demanded “negotiations to improve careers and take general measures for salaries.” In particular, through revaluation of the index point.
Unions also point to the working conditions of civil servants, which they describe as “degraded”, with “retrenchments” and “no prospects for increases in an inflationary context”.
On the ground, many sectors were disrupted this Tuesday, including health, education and transport, particularly affected by the protest movement, especially in Nice, Montpellier, Paris, Marseille and even Lyon.
