The School Community is mobilizing in the face of the negligence of the Government and the contracting company.
The Dr. Martins Costa Jr (EEEF) State Elementary School, located in the Partenon neighbourhood, in Porto Alegre, has been facing a serious impasse for more than two months. The school’s roof, damaged by a storm in January, remains closed without proper repairs, raising concerns about the safety of students and teachers.
While the school community searches for solutions, the Leite government (PSDB) tries to justify the delay in reform. The company Jireh Serviços, winner of the tender for the works, has not yet submitted all the necessary documentation, which has sparked indignation and apprehension among those involved.
The contractor’s failure to meet deadlines raises concerns about the safety of the school community. Furthermore, structural problems are being reported that directly affect student health and learning, while the government seeks to minimize the impacts by ensuring safety while the works are carried out.
Faced with the situation, teachers, students and representatives of the school community mobilized to ask for immediate intervention. The government’s negligence is denounced and the president of the ALRS Educational Committee, Sofia Cavedon (PT), calls for the contractor to be banned, while the school community calls for the urgent and safe completion of the works.
