Fluminense tests its squad after April

After a month of March with few matches and one elimination, Fluminense had just over two weeks to carry out a new pre-season.

After a month of March with few matches and an elimination in the Campeonato Carioca, Fluminense had just over two weeks to carry out a new pre-season. Important moment to recover the injured and align the team for the sequence of matches it will have in April.

In the first week they will travel to Lima, where they will face the hosts Alianza Lima, who will begin the group stage of the Libertadores. On April 9th the team will face Coco-Colo at the Maracanã and on the following weekend, the 13th, the Brasileirão will begin with the entire sequence of matches that will test the group.

Below is the sequence that Fluminense will have in April:

  • (3/4) Alianza Lima away from home (Libertadores)
  • (9/4) Colo-Colo at home (Libertadores)
  • (13/4 or 14/4) Bragantino at home (Brazilian)
  • (17/4 or 18/4) Away Bahia (Brazilian)
  • (20/4 or 21/4) Vasco in casa (Brazilian)
  • (25/4) Cerro Porteño away (Libertadores)
  • (27/4 or 28/4) Corinthians away from home (Brazilian)

In the following matches, Fluminense will face the main teams of their country in the Libertadores, with away games with full stadiums. And for the Brazilian championship, the team will face a team on the rise on the national scene, a classic of the 3rd round, two clashes against teams that have a large attendance when playing in their stadiums and try to score as much as possible in their domains.

If in March the group had only played 3 matches in the whole month, now they will feel the difference of playing matches in every week of April and with a difference of 3 days between them, due to the start of the Brazilian championship, the teams that are in the southern leagues -The Americans will not have a full week of training.

But the great unknown that remains in the minds of the fans is whether this group will be physically able to sustain this pace until the end of the season. With numerous injuries to key players at the start of the year, Fluminense found themselves without their main players in most of their matches. In the transfer window, Tricolor brought good replacement options into the starting lineup, but still needs time to adapt to the playing style implemented by coach Fernando Diniz. The fact is that the team has raised the level this year and compared to 2023 the squad has reserves that could become unbalanced when they enter the field or replace a fundamental athlete.

The team returns to action on April 3 when they face Alianza Lima away from home in the Libertadores group stage. Until then, Fluminense will have time to train, prepare and recover its players for most of the season to give its fans hope of a possible second title in America
