Santos meets Russian club to avoid ‘transfer ban’

The issue concerns Peruvian striker Cueva, who played for Peixe in 2019; Krasnodar, from Russia, is asking for around R$20 million

This Thursday (28), Santos had a meeting with Krasnodar, a Russian club, which is demanding a debt of one million dollars from Peixe on behalf of striker Cristian Cueva. The Peruvian player, who played for Vila Belmiro in 2019, arrived after negotiations with the Russians, who however demand a payment of around 20 million reals.

The purpose of this meeting, held remotely, was to negotiate an amicable settlement and avoid a “transfer ban” by FIFA. This means that Santos, if they do not pay their debt to Krasnodar, could be prevented from registering and signing players. While acknowledging that the club’s balance sheet is already damaged, Santos president Marcelo Teixeira guaranteed that the club will pay its debt.

“We will do it right and we will pay for it. We don’t have a deadline, but we are putting things together. Once again, this will put a strain on the budget, which is already overly compromised. But there is no alternative: we must pay off this commitment and fulfill to our obligation,” said Marcelo, to ‘ge’.

Understand the case

In 2019, Santos bought Cueva from Krasnodar for $7 million (R$38 million, at the time), but paid only half of this amount. After just 16 games, the Peruvian left for Pachuca, Mexico, which ended up being punished by FIFA due to the forced transfer, as Cueva left Peixe in a hostile manner.

Santos posted a deal with Pachuca to receive 4.6 million dollars (about R$23 million). However, there was no agreement with the Russians regarding their previous debt. The case continues to be dealt with, even after threats from Krasnodar to take the case to court.
