Football players change not only on the football field, but also on the prison bench
A holy place is never empty. More recently, after the arrest of Spartak striker Quincy Promes, we remembered other famous footballers who were sentenced to real prison terms. And they even made up a whole team.
And the other day one of the main “heroes” of our selection, Dani Alves, was released, but another immediately took his place. Also a Brazilian, Robinho, ex-striker of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Milan.
Atlético Madrid striker Memphis Depay paid million bail for Dani Alves
Last year, Dani Alves, Lionel Messi’s long-time partner at Barcelona, was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for rape and the Brazilian spent a year in a Spanish prison. And last month the news broke: one of the journalists wrote on his social networks that Alves had committed suicide. Dani’s brother Ney Alves called it fake, but said things were really bad for him.
It seems to have worked, since this week the court allowed Dani Alves to be released from prison and placed under house arrest, on bail of one million euros. According to insiders, this amount was paid by the striker of the Netherlands national team and Atlético Madrid, Memphis Depay, who played with Alves in Barcelona a few years ago.
After his release from prison, Dani Alves threw a party to celebrate his release. The Brazilian player’s family and friends spent the entire night partying in a Barcelona suburb.
Robinho was sentenced to 9 years in prison and tried to escape justice
And as soon as Alves was released, another former Brazilian national team footballer, Robinho, went to prison. The accusation is always the same: rape. True, the sentence is twice as long as that of Alves, 9 years old, because another footballer… Robinho participated in the rape of a 23-year-old girl in one of the Italian bars.
Certainly, Robinho did not go to prison right away, hiding from Italian justice in Brazil, and she does not have an extradition treaty with Italy. And then the Italians demanded that Robinho serve his sentence at home. And the Brazilian court supported this requirement.
It is not yet clear where and how Robinho will sit, but one thing is clear: another ball magician did not end his career very gracefully.
