Bayern Munich have a new target for the coaching position

The managers of the Bavarian club discuss alternatives if Xabi Alonso remains at Leverkusen

Bayern Munich have Ralf Rangnick, former manager of Manchester United and currently in Austria, as their “plan B” to take over from Thomas Tuchel next season. The information comes from the German newspaper “Kicker”.

Xabi Alonso, coach of Bayer Leverkusen, is the first name in the sights of the Bavarian club. The Spaniard, however, has not yet defined his future. The expectation is that the coach will decide in about four weeks whether or not to remain with the current team.

Faced with this uncertainty, a name that has gained strength in recent days has been that of Roberto De Zerbi, manager of Brighton in England. The Bayern management like the name, but the language is currently considered a barrier. This is because De Zerbi does not speak German, only Italian and English.

That’s why Rangnick has become Bayern’s main target if Xabi Alonso stays at Leverkusen or chooses another club, such as Liverpool. The closeness between the coach and sporting director Christoph Freund also weighs in favor of a possible negotiation.

According to the publication, big names such as José Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane are excluded. The returns of Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann are also ruled out, and any new manager other than Xabi Alonso will need approval from the club’s board to take on the role.
