The Chelsea owner risks imminent departure from the presidency

Todd Boehly has faced criticism from fans and is expected to step down in 2027

Todd Boehly, owner of Chelsea since 2022, is about to resign as president of the club, but this will only happen in 2027, according to the British newspaper ‘Daily Mail’. He has received a lot of criticism from Blues fans. However, even though his departure is imminent, there is a clause in his contract that could bring him back.

According to the ‘Daily Mail’, Chelsea’s American owners have an agreement according to which the presidency changes every five years. The current intention is to remove Boehly from the role when the opportunity arises at the end of the 2026/2027 season.

Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano, who control Clearlake Capital, own 61.5% of the club, while Boehly shares the remaining 38.5% with Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.

Therefore Eghbali or Feliciano will be able to assume the presidency, or appoint a replacement. Although the new president has not yet been decided, Todd Boehly’s departure is considered certain. According to ‘talkSport’, Boehly could return to the role through a contractual clause in 2032, but according to the portal he is not interested.
