The Premier League team will change president

The agreement between the owners allows for a change in leadership of the club every five years

According to the English newspaper “Daily Mail”, Todd Boehly will be removed from the post of president of Chelsea in 2027. The reason for the change in command of the club is an agreement between the owners of the club, who can alternate control of the team with each other every five years.

In addition to Todd, the club’s owners are entrepreneurs Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano, who are part of Clearlake Capital, a private company that owns 61.5% of Chelsea. The remaining percentage (38.5%) is split evenly between Boehly and two other people: Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.

Therefore, members of the majority can take over the presidency of the club in 2027 or hand over control of the institution to a third party. It is worth noting that there is not yet a definition of who will be chosen for the position. The only certainty is that Boehly will not remain in control of the club.

The “Daily Mail” underlines that the change in command does not necessarily represent a vote of no confidence in the actions of Boehly, who became the main face of the club’s management after the takeover and, consequently, the main target of criticism from i fans, due to the negative results of the last two seasons.

Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano took charge of Chelsea in 2022 when Román Abramovich put the club up for sale following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The former owner of the club was characterized by high investments in signings, which allowed Chelsea to become one of the most competitive teams in English football over the last 20 years.
