Rodnina about Valieva: only Olympic champions receive a presidential scholarship
Former figure skater and now State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina reacted to the deprivation of the presidential scholarship of Kamila Valieva.
According to her, this is not surprising, since the athlete is no longer an Olympic champion. In addition, Rodnina recalled that student Eteri Tutberidze was expelled from the Russian team.
“Valiyeva is not a member of the national team and she will not be able to compete for two years. And what? How do you want her to be paid? This scholarship is only granted to Olympic champions and she is stripped of her gold medal. That’s all!” – added Rodnina, whose words are reported by Sport24.ru.
Valieva, 17, was stripped of gold at the 2022 Olympics due to a failed drug test. Additionally, she was disqualified for four years. This decision was taken by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
