The Tottenham player is undergoing stem cell treatment to treat trauma to the patellar tendon in his right knee
An injury to the patellar tendon in his right knee, reported about a year ago, which caused the player problems again this month, led the Brazilian Emerson Royal to start an innovative treatment. The Tottenham right-back again felt pain in that area and last week underwent a stem cell implant procedure to treat the injury.
Tests showed that there was bone formation in the area, which hindered his recovery from the injury. So the Brazilian player felt pain again. Thus, Emerson Royal has not played since March 2, when he defended Tottenham against Crystal Palace, in the Premier League.
“The effectiveness rate of the procedure is 100%. We use the patient’s own cells without any risk of rejection. The cells serve to de-inflammate, heal and regenerate the lesions up to 70% less than the original period. If a lesion has 30 days of healing, we were able, with the use of the proper technique, to heal in ten days,” explained stem cell specialist Dr. Luiz Felipe Carvalho, doctor in charge of the treatment at Emerson Royal.
In this procedure, stem cells are removed from the patient’s bone marrow. These cells help speed recovery from various types of injuries and have anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, they can help in the regeneration of bones, muscles and cartilage.
Emerson Royal’s account of treatment
“I couldn’t take a step, I had no strength, it hurt a lot, a few days after (the treatment) I no longer felt any pain, then we did the second application to strengthen the tendon, but I no longer felt I didn’t feel any pain” , said the Tottenham player.
