Djokovic breaks with the coach who was at his side in 12 Grand Slam titles; see the reason

Croatian Goran Vanisevic has been working with the world’s No. 1 tennis player since 2018

Still without playing a final this season, Novak Djokovic he decided to make changes to his team. Last Wednesday, the Serbian tennis player announced the end of his collaboration with coach Goran Ivanisevic, with whom he had worked since 2018. During this period, Djokovic won 12 of his 24 Grand Slam titles, a record among men.

“Goran and I decided to end our work together a few days ago. Our chemistry on the pitch has had ups and downs, but our friendship has always been solid. In fact, I am proud to say that in addition to having won tournaments “We have also had a side battle that I played for many years. And this tournament never ends for us. Thanks for everything friend, I love you”, said the tennis player, publishing the message on social media, alongside a photo in which they both compete in the board game.

Ivanisevic joined Djokovic’s team six years ago, joining the team then led by Slovakian Marian Vajda, the coach who worked with the Serb the most throughout his career. The Croatian, number two in the world as a player, was Wimbledon champion in 2001, counting on the strength of his powerful serve.

Djokovic joked about the high level of his now former coach’s foundation. “I clearly remember the moment when I invited Goran to be part of my team. It happened in 2018 and Marian (Vajda) and I wanted to innovate and bring some ‘magic loot’ to our duo.

In fact, we brought not only work, but also laughter, fun, the return to number 1 at the end of the year, records and 12 Slam titles (as well as some finals). Should I also mention some drama?” Djokovic announced on his social media.

Current number 1 in the world, the Serbian tennis player is not starting the season well this year. He has not yet lifted a single trophy or played in a final. In the three tournaments played so far, his best result was the semi-final of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season.

He decided not to enter the Masters 1000 round in Miami, United States, a tournament currently underway, to focus on preparing for the clay tour in Europe.
