Fenerbahçe considers joining Italian or Spanish leagues after attack on players

A big scandal breaks out in Turkish football. One of the giants of the local Super League, Fenerbahçe, wants to withdraw from the championship and find a new tournament in another country. All because of a massive fight between Trabzonspor fans and Fener players. They are already looking for the culprits and the hooligans, FIFA is demanding justice and the leaders of Fenerbahçe absolutely do not want to continue playing in the Turkish championship.

KP Sport explains why the Turkish giants are not at all welcome in the Russian Premier League.

Will Fenerbahçe play in Italy, France or Spain?

The bosses of Turkish Fenerbahce want to withdraw the team from the Turkish championship. This is how the Turkish giants responded to the attack by Trabzonspor supporters against their players during the 30th day of the Super League. This match ended in scandal and pogroms on the football field.

According to Turkish online publication BPT, Fener’s management is now looking for a new championship for their team. Among the possible contenders for the admission of the Istanbul team to their championship are the championships of Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Spain.

Information about a possible withdrawal from the championship is not rumors or press inventions. The press service of Fenerbahçe has already confirmed that an extraordinary meeting of the club’s board of directors will be held on April 2, during which the issue of finding a new tournament for the team will be considered.

Trabzonspor fans staged a massive brawl with Fenerbahçe players right on the pitch

It seems that Fener’s management did not think about withdrawing from the Turkish championship because of unnecessary emotions. It is now about the safety of footballers. All this because of the yellow-blues’ last match in the championship.

In the 30th round of the Super League, Fenerbahçe defeated Trabzonspor away – 3:2. Istanbul players rejoiced in the victory in the center of the field, which angered the already disgruntled Trabzon fans. Shortly after the final whistle, the fans of the home team couldn’t stand it: they ran onto the field and started beating the Fener players.

The stewards did not spare the Fenerbahçe players from blows to the back and the back of the head. The players themselves did not flee the field, but decided to fight back. Istanbul defender Bright Oseyi-Samuel actually turned into an MMA fighter: he threw the offending fan to the ground and began hitting him on the head with his hands while he was lying under him.

Yellow-blue striker Michy Batshuayi demonstrated his kickboxing skills – he roundhouse kicked one of the fans directly in the head. But the security officers did not allow the fight to continue. The Fener players were literally pushed towards the locker room.

FIFA demands that hooligans be brought to justice

Fenerbahçe’s players appeared to have reacted with dignity to the horror unfolding on the pitch after the final whistle.

“The blood on the T-shirt is our honor.” Fenerbahçe – until the last drop of blood! – said Serdar Dursun.

By the way, the Istanbul coach also got it, but during the match. In the 15th minute of the match, fans threw a heavy object towards Ismail Kartal and hit him on the head.

— I have a small scratch on my head. I’m used to it, I grew up on the streets. But other trainers have swollen lips and chins. My son was hit in the head. How are we supposed to fix all this? – said the head coach of Fener.

A massive brawl on the pitch is a disaster and a shame for the whole of Turkish football. The incident was condemned by the country’s Ministry of Youth and Sports. And Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikaya said work to identify people who ran onto the ground had already begun. Additionally, FIFA demands that all law enforcement violators be held accountable.

“The violence witnessed by Turkish fans following the Premier League match between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce is completely unacceptable – on or off the pitch, and has no place in our sport or our society. I have already said and I repeat: in football, every player must be safe to play this game which brings so much joy to so many people around the world. “I call on the relevant authorities to ensure compliance with this rule for all levels and to hold those responsible for the shocking events in Trabzon accountable for their actions,” the organization’s press service quoted FIFA President Gianni Infantino as saying.

Could Fenerbahçe end up in the RPL?

If Fenerbahçe is looking for a new championship, then the club could well find themselves in the Russian Premier League. True, in Russia this idea was not appreciated.

– Is the RPL a dump to invite a Fenerbahçe expelled from Turkey?! A team was kicked out and we need to get them back? Think in general! What image will the RPL have if we promote this initiative? And why, if it’s a real shame. Therefore, from my point of view, the topic of Fenerbahce’s invitation to the Russian championship is not worth discussing,” Sport24 quotes the words of honorary president of the RFU Vyacheslav Koloskov.

Mikhail Gershkovich, a member of the RFU executive committee, generally believes that Fener’s transition to the Russian leagues is unrealistic. The Turks must overcome a number of obstacles to reach at least the lower division.

— A club of this level would strengthen the RPL, but what can we say when such a thing is unrealistic. There are certain rules, a decision is required from the Turkish federation, the RFU. But the most important thing is UEFA. Moreover, in this case the team will start competing in lower leagues,” Gershkovich said. “TV Match”

It seems that Fenerbahçe really won’t come to the RPL. It’s a shame – there would have been one more competitor for Zenit in the fight for the championship.
