David Beckham spoke to Messi’s father and tried to sign him even before PSG
Former player David Beckham has revealed he had a crying fit over Argentinian Lionel Messi. The reason, however, is the resounding purchase of Inter Miami.
Initially, the coach of the American club had revealed that he had spoken with Messi for some time and that he had to work hard to confirm the purchase.
“Leo’s father and I had been talking for a long time… about five years ago. My partner in Miami and I snuck into a hotel to meet Leo’s father five years before he signed a contract with us,” she said Beckham in an interview on the podcast This Life of Mine.
On that occasion, in fact, Messi decided to sign a contract with PSG, where he met Neymar again. He spent two seasons at the French club (2021-22 and 2022-23) and scored 32 goals. Then it was announced by Miami.
“We had a meeting with him and I told him: ‘Look, I know Leo is not ready now, but I want his son to play for my club in the future’. Fast forward five years. We knew that month that he was there a decision to make because Leo had announced that he would leave PSG,” Beckham said.
“So at four or five in the morning in Japan, I’m in bed and my phone keeps ringing, ringing, ringing… then I see: ‘Leo Messi has decided to come to Miami’. Now I get goosebumps I sat in bed and started crying,” he concluded.
