The victim of “Dani Alves” never wanted money. Spanish justice, yes’

The Terrabolists bench analyzes the court’s decision, which set bail for the Brazilian’s crime of rape and considers it a mistake

The Spanish court’s decision to set the bail amount for Daniel Alves before leaving prison (1 million euros, or R$5.4 million), was criticized on Monday by the program Terrabolistas (25/3). Host Dario Vasconcelos believes that Daniel Alves committed a crime and must pay the consequences. But, evaluating the defender’s freedom, he placed the woman victim of the rape he committed as a commodity with value.

Terra journalist Alexsander Vieira sees enormous hypocrisy in this story:

“The victim never wanted money to interrupt the trial. But the Spanish justice system did it,” he summarized, before adding:

“At first we were incredulous to see that the sentence was lower than expected. However, at least there was a conviction. Now, however, there is a feeling of immunity and that the victim’s body had a price. That in Spain women have a value of 1 million euros (5.4 million R$). But, unfortunately, the decision is legal by law. So, only by changing the law. But it should not be like this: paying to have freedom in crimes such as rape.”

Hadassa Gonçalves, Grupo Band journalist and host of this week’s Terrabolistas program, said that the justice’s decision was completely wrong. It does nothing but increase the feeling of impunity for those with money:

«It’s a delicate topic, but it’s necessary to talk about it. After all, the more people talk, it gives greater awareness. Saying how much freedom is worth for this crime opens up a lot of space for many things. Those who are rich can rape and have the money to get out. What he did to receive his sentence in the comfort of his home.”

Positive point

Hadassa sees a single bright spot in the Daniel Alves case.

“All these repercussions have opened the space to address the Robinho case in Brazil. If the Daniel Alves case had not had repercussions as we have all seen, we would not be faced with Robinho’s arrest here in Brazil for the rape he committed and who was sentenced to nine years in Italy.”

Journalist Barbara Comparato, another Terrabolistas guest, saw it as a sad irony that, in the same week, Robinho saw his arrest warrant issued. But Dani Alves can post bail and serve his sentence at home.

“It’s a slap in the face. There is no way to put a price on it. All heinous crimes should have been treated differently. There is a lack of harsher punishments or no way to learn. Will Daniel suffer a lot at home? He is an example of what cannot happen in Spain, if a person has money he can commit a crime, because he will find a way.”
