Caixa awaits a new proposal from Corinthians for the Arena’s debt

The club owes approximately R$700 million to Caixa, due to the construction of the Corinthians Arena; The club recently had a bid rejected

Caixa Econômica Federal is waiting for a new offer from Corinthians so that the club can start paying off the debt to the bank due to the construction of the Neo Química Arena. The debt, worth around 700 million Brazilian reals, has already been negotiated by the Corinthians board, which was in Brasilia in February to try to find a way to pay the payment in installments.

Recently, Timão approached Caixa and made a payment proposal, which however was rejected. Nonetheless, the president of Caixa, Carlos Vieira, does not rule out continuing to listen to offers. He actually waits for the Corinthians leadership to move to decide the issue.

“Caixa was, in fact, responsible for the construction of the Corinthians Arena. There is a debt on that asset built there in Itaquera. We are resuming a negotiation process to find a mechanism to vacate the stadium and provide its guarantee, to pact that “The debt is paid to Caixa. We have some premises and business models that Corinthians is evaluating. In reality, Corinthians has not presented a concrete proposal. We are in a phase of dialogue with them to find a better term to repay this debt”, he told the “Power 360” portal.

The proposal rejected by Caixa required Corinthians to pay R$531 million. Of this, R$356 million would be for the naming rights of the stadium and the other R$175 million would be for the purchase of debts that Caixa would have to pay to third parties.
