Former player Robson de Souza, popularly known as Robinho, was arrested around 7.30pm this Thursday (21st), in Santos, by the Federal Police. The former striker will serve 9 years in a closed regime, after being convicted in Italy of rape and having had the sentence validated by the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) in Brazil.
The crime took place in 2013, in an Italian nightclub, when Robinho was with five other men who raped an Albanian woman. According to investigations, the woman lost consciousness due to excessive alcohol consumption. The case was handled for several years by Italian justice, until it reached the country’s highest court in 2022.
Robinho was taken to the Federal Police Headquarters to undergo a forensic examination (which certifies the clinical conditions of the person before arrest). Next is the custody hearing and then the transfer to a penitentiary.
According to Globo News, the trend is for Robinho to be taken to Tremembé prison, in the hinterland of São Paulo, known for having received other famous prisoners such as Suzane Richthofen, Elize Matsunaga, the Nardoni couple and Edinho, Pelé’s son.

The Federal Police, on the night of Thursday 21 March, issued an arrest warrant, issued by the 5th Federal Court of Santos, against Robson de Souza.
The inmate will undergo an examination at the IML, a custody hearing and will be sent to the prison system.
Last Thursday, Robinho’s lawyers had asked that the former athlete remain free until all the appeals were judged. Minister Luiz Fux, of the Federal Court (STF), rejected the defense’s request for habeas corpus.
