South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday offered his condolences to the Republic of Botswana and the families of the 45 people who died in a road accident in Limpopo, northern South Africa on Thursday.

A bus carrying 46 Easter pilgrims from Botswana to Moria plunged off a bridge in Limpopo. The only survivor of the accident was an 8-year-old girl.

The president’s statement said that Ramaphosa pledged, in a telephone conversation with Botswanan President Mokwetsi Massi, to continue to support the South African government during this period.

According to the same source, Masisi thanked South Africa for their cooperation during such a difficult time.

Earlier, the Department of Transport said that the driver lost control of the bus after hitting the barriers of the bridge. The bus caught fire after falling.

During the Easter and Christmas holidays, South Africa experiences a high number of traffic accidents, especially on the Limpopo Highway, which connects it to Zimbabwe.

Limpopo Prime Minister Stanley Matabatha sent the province’s Transport Minister Florence Radzilan to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation and establish the circumstances.
