Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that F-16 fighter jets delivered to Ukraine will be legitimate targets wherever they are if they are used against Russia from airfields in third countries.
Putin made the comments on Thursday during a visit to the military aviation training center, which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense, in the Tver region, 160 kilometers northwest of Moscow.
If Western countries provide Ukraine with F-16 fighters, it will not change the situation on the battlefield, Putin said, adding: “We will destroy the F-16s as we destroy tanks, armored vehicles and other equipment today. , including multiple missile launchers”.
He emphasized that the F-16 fighters are capable of carrying nuclear warheads and that Moscow should take this into account in its military planning.
Regarding Moscow’s response, if these fighter jets, which were supposed to be delivered to Ukraine, were used from NATO airfields, the Russian president said: “Of course, if these planes are used from the airfields of third countries, they become legitimate. targets for us, regardless of where they are located.”
Putin called Russia’s possible attack on the Baltic states and Poland “absurd”.
