Turkey’s eighth humanitarian ship bound for the Gaza Strip will depart on Thursday, the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) said in a press release.
The ship, prepared by AFAD teams in cooperation with the General Directorate of Funds, will leave the port of Mersin at 13:00 local time (10:00 GMT).
Loading of 2,960 tons of supplies continues, including 125,000 food kits and other supplies.
Coordinated by AFAD and supported by civil society organizations, Turkey has so far diverted 13 aircraft and seven ships carrying humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
Through a combination of boat travel, airlift operations, local deliveries and cooperation with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNRWA), the humanitarian aid sent reached 39,607 tonnes.
To meet the water needs of civilians in the Gaza Strip, another project was launched in cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent to provide bottled water. To date, a total of 1,126 tons of water have been delivered to the region by weekly shipments of five trucks.
