To all these new sandwiches I loved in Paris

Living in Paris means having cursed at least once at the opening of yet another roll bar or a trendy sandwich counter that competes with another on the same street. Everything is an excuse to complain in Paris, but the reality is that we always end up rejoicing at having more and more new spots to explore and street-food delights to devour on the go with relish during our breaks. most furtive lunches. We can say it, in the capital, one sandwich chases another and we never finish trying them all. So much so that you could almost make it a full-time activity. For our part, we still took the time to taste five of the most popular ones of the moment and we can only recommend that you do the same.

5 sandwiches to discover in Paris

The Spicy Chicken Burger from Deli by Melt

It almost feels like one of those typically American delicatessens when you stop by Deli by Melt on the corner of rue Marguerite de Rochechouart and rue de Dunkerque, in the 9th arrondissement. Everything is there: between the tiled counter and its backlit cap on which is displayed a menu as decadent as it is tempting, the photos plastered on the walls which take us on a journey to the four corners of Texas, from Austin to Dallas via Kansas City and the country playlist with little onions. “Smoke meat everyday”, such is the motto of this place for barbecue lovers. Country breads and other brioche buns are sometimes flavored with pastrami, pulled pork or brisket, sometimes smoked for more than 15 hours and cut on the spot, 7 days a week from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. All to take away vacuum packed and enjoy in as little time as it takes to order it. Our recommendation: the Spicy Chicken Burger for its plump golden bun, its spicy and rich-tasting meat, its ultra-fresh celery coleslaw for crunch and its homemade ranch sauce for a touch of slightly tangy sweetness.

Basis’ Banh (Sis) kebab

Imagine a kebab meets a banh-mi… This gives Banh (sis). A very mixed fusion, which we owe to Basis, a true Parisian temple of well-made kebabs. The address of street-food enthusiast Maxime Gaffory had fun paying homage to the legendary Vietnamese sandwich in a version that was as surprising as it was explosive. No tomato-onion salad here, but instead marinated carrots, a few cucumbers and coriander, a trio of ingredients inseparable from traditional banh-mi. Enough to perfectly compliment the perfectly seasoned chicken (it was immersed for 24 to 48 hours in a marinade composed of dakatine (peanut paste), Achiote (a slightly peppery Mexican spice), French and Chinese peppers and milk. ribot), cooked on a spit, also unusual in volcanic stone, which gives the meat a subtly smoky taste and a crispy and juicy texture. To accommodate everything, you choose between a pita bread or a dürüm pancake, both of which come from the neighboring Ahmed bakery. First spread with Sriracha mayonnaise, they are then drizzled with a sweet and sour sauce once assembly is complete. In short, this “kebanhmi” is a real little madness.

Junk’s Crispy Veggie Burger

Making a good veggie burger, which is both sexy, but not too boring, is no easy task. Many try it without the result always being very convincing. Between vegetable patties that are too bland or soy steaks that lack taste, veggie alternatives are often not up to the level of meat burgers. At Junk, we wouldn’t say that the Crispy Veggie Burger surpasses the smashburger, the brand’s true specialty, but it certainly holds its own very well. The star of this vegetarian option? A surprising crunchy and tender homemade pancake made with cauliflower, potatoes and Emmental cheese, all coated in panko breadcrumbs. A combo that works brilliantly, probably because it doesn’t desperately try to reproduce the taste of meat. Add to that beautiful slices of dripping American cheese, a good dose of junk sauce and a very glowy brioche bun and you get an almost perfect veggie burger.

Kiss’s Whatever Veggies sandwich

What would the city of Los Angeles look like if we had to sum it up in a sandwich? Without a doubt one of those served at Kiss. This brand new “all day takeaway” counter was designed by Matthias Gloppe, to whom we already owe Echo, the most Parisian of Californian canteens. A kiosk with a stylish decor, exactly inspired by those found in all the hippest neighborhoods of the city of angels. On the menu, the “Whatever Veggies” a sandwich, 100% vegetarian, 100% Cali, is presented to us as a must. On the program: sourdough sourdough bread, because LA doesn’t really like gluten, avocado because it’s obligatory, alfalfa sprouts (because you know it’s one of the trendiest detox superfoods of the moment), onion pickles for the side aesthetic and finally a little mayonnaise and mature cheddar because we are in the US after all. Visually, it’s beautiful, the concept is very cool, taste-wise, it’s not bad, just a bit boring. Hollywood and its disillusionments.
