Here is the country where the inhabitants are the happiest in the world, and we hurry to take inspiration from it

The ranking of the happiest countries in the world fell on March 20. Indeed, since 2012, the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network has published its World Happiness Report every year. Countries are therefore classified according to an evaluation that the population makes of their happiness, but also according to economic and social data. Thus, information such as income, health, freedom, social support, generosity and absence of corruption are therefore scrutinized. The goal ? Call to “a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all people”.

And for the last seven years, it is a Nordic country which has been in first place in this ranking.

And the happiest country in the world is…

Exit the paradise islands, hot weather or even fine sand, make way for the contemplation of the Northern Lights and the practice of skiing. If you are in pursuit of happiness, these are the activities that you will have to focus on, because, once again, Finland wins. The Finns seem to have found the key to happiness, because for the past 7 years, they have been at the top of the ranking of the happiest people in the world. According to the explanations given to theAFP by the researcher specializing in this theme Jennifer De Paola, they are satisfied with a lifestyle that balances work and private life, but also to have a certain proximity to nature.

It also justifies that the Finns perhaps have a “more accessible understanding of what a successful life is” unlike the French who, for example, are more inclined to political and social divisions. This country is mostly in agreement with its institutions which have less corruption and which allow everyone to benefit from free education and healthcare. “Finnish society is imbued with a sense of trust, freedom and a high level of autonomy”, specifies the Finnish researcher.

What other countries are good to live in?

However, this happiness does not stop at the Finnish borders… Because its neighbors, including Denmark, Iceland and Sweden, follow it very closely. The Nordic countries are therefore “the place to be” when we aspire to happiness. In addition, the ranking indicates that of the top 10 countries where life is good, 8 of them are European.

If you are wondering where France is located, it is not in the top 10 nor in the top 20 and is only in 27th place behind Costa Rica (12th place), Kuwait (13th position), the United States -United States (23rd) and Germany (24th). It is Afghanistan which closes the ranking by taking 143rd place, this position is entirely understandable given the humanitarian catastrophe that the country is currently experiencing since the return of the Taliban to power in 2020.

However, the World Happiness Report demonstrates that there is a generational divide in the perception of happiness. Thus, it is rather among young people that this feeling of happiness is strongest. In most European regions, younger generations live happier than their elders. This is particularly the case in Eastern Europe which is experiencing progress in this direction. However, the report indicates that in general, European youth feel happier than older generations. However, it is the opposite in North America, Australia and New Zealand where those over 30 feel less happy than those who are older. Indeed, there was a specular decline concerning this youth during the years 2006-2010.
