Ceagesp is close to being excluded from the privatization program, the minister says

According to Paulo Teixeira, of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, the company is “profitable, has a surplus and can grow much more”

OR Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming, Paolo Teixeiradeclared on Wednesday 27th that the withdrawal of the General Warehouse and Warehouse Company of Sao Paulo (Ceagesp) of the National Privatization Program (PND).

“All that remains is the authorization of the PND council, but all the justifications have been given and done,” he said in an interview with the press during the 15th edition of Santa Feira do Peixe, held in the Ceagesp fish warehouse.

Teixeira said Ceagesp “is a profitable, surplus company that can grow much more.” “So this government sees strategic sense for Ceagesp in Brazil’s food supply,” he said.

According to the minister, Ceagesp will play a central role in the National Food Supply Plan. “The state company supplies an important part of the national market and also coordinates other supply centers. The public policies that Ceagesp can implement are countless,” he explained.



Studies are also planned in collaboration with the Sao Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp) regarding improvements for the company, Teixeira added.

During the event, a technical cooperation agreement was signed between Ceagesp and the Associação Paulista de Supermercados (Apas). The aim of the agreement is to improve warehouse management logistics with small and medium-sized supermarkets that purchase from Ceagesp, explained the state company’s technical and operational director, José Lourenço Petcholl.

The fishing sector expects fish consumption to grow by 11% to 15% during the Holy Week holidays this year compared to 2023, according to the interim Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Carlos Mello.

“It is a classic period in which producers, fishermen, shipowners and fishing entrepreneurs see their sales increase, as well as consumption,” the minister said. Mello is executive secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and replaces Minister André de Paula during holidays.
