The Central Bank reports a loss of R$114 billion in 2023

The Central Bank recorded a negative result of 114.152 billion reais in 2023, smaller than the loss of 298.494 billion reais seen the previous year, according to a report published by the monetary authority.

Among the results achieved in the year, a loss of 123 billion reais reflects the impact of exchange rate appreciation in the period on international reserves, partially offset by gains from foreign exchange derivatives (swap) operations. The balance of non-exchange related transactions was positive at 8.848 billion reais.

According to the BC, the financial statement will be submitted to the National Monetary Council for consideration at its meeting scheduled for Thursday.

The legislation defines that any losses from the autarky must be covered by the National Treasury, after using the reserves and institutional assets of the autarky, respecting the minimum net worth limit of 1.5% of total assets.
