Vale reported on Monday that its North American subsidiary Vale USA has been selected by the US government to enter into negotiations for up to $282.9 million in financing to develop a briquette plant in the country.
“Vale’s project involves the development of an innovative industrial iron ore briquette unit in the United States, the first in the world to apply the patented cold agglomeration process of briquettes to the direct reduction process,” said the company in a note to the market.
According to Vale, the world’s first briquette plant was opened by the company in 2023, in Vitória.
“The briquette is produced by the low-temperature agglomeration of high-quality iron ore, using a technological solution of binders that give the final product high mechanical resistance.”
