The Brazilian government said Monday that it had “with satisfaction” received the Philippine government’s approval of the “accreditation system” regime for Brazilian beef, poultry and pork, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the note, this modality allows the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to certify and license domestic slaughterhouses for export to the Philippines, making Philippine audit missions unnecessary.
The new regime, the note reads, will allow “the expansion of the number of qualified slaughterhouses, including smaller companies and diversifying animal protein exports to the Asian country”.
“The Philippine measure reaffirms, in an important market, the quality and safety of Brazilian products, based on compliance with rigorous health standards”, reads the note.
Also according to the ministry, the Philippines is the seventh global destination for Brazilian animal proteins, with a total of $681 million in exports. For pork, it represents the second largest market: $274 million, equivalent to 10% of Brazil’s global exports of the product.
