E-sport: a new means of inclusion and social transformation

In addition to providing social inclusion, e-sports stimulate the development of valuable cognitive skills

Around the world, more and more people are becoming gamers, from workers using public transportation time to play “Candy Crush” to young people in open digital worlds like “Roblox” and “Fortnite.”

A PwC survey shows that electronic games already generate more than $196 billion, and global revenue by 2026 is expected to reach $321 billion, according to the company’s projections. With the rapid growth of the industry, it has become common for casual gamers to become professional athletes, with substantial salaries, sponsorships from streaming services, and live events.

The professionalization of the sector also opens up prospects for influencers, event organizers and game developers. This growth goes far beyond mere entertainment, becoming a powerful tool for inclusion and transformation, especially in disadvantaged communities.

On-stage accessibility is, in fact, one of the biggest benefits of e-sports. Unlike many traditional sports, e-sports do not require high initial financial investments. This means that even people in socioeconomically vulnerable situations can actively participate in a competitive and socially engaging environment.

Benefits for life

In addition to providing social inclusion, e-sports encourage the development of valuable cognitive skills, such as quick decision making, strategic thinking and teamwork. These features are not only useful in the context of gaming, but also in everyday life and the job market.

However, despite the accessibility of electronic games, promoting events that engage the gaming community and open up possibilities for new participants is still a challenge. Therefore, to promote large-scale e-sports actions, such as the e-Cup held in the city of Sao Paulo, which included Olympic games such as “Just Dance”, “Fortnite” and “Grand Turismo”, a solid organizational structure with detailed planning, strategic partnerships and a robust technology infrastructure to support the high volume of participants and spectators.

It is no surprise that entities such as the World eSports Association (WESA) and the Esports Integrity Commission seek to foster this market, which also strives for acceptance and full recognition as a legitimate form of sport. Furthermore, ensuring sustainable investments and establishing clear rules are other obstacles to overcome in order for the entire sector to “turn the key” and be recognized for its economic, transformative and democratic potential.

Weight stands

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and private companies play a vital role in the growth and strengthening of the area. In addition to fighting for regulation and recognition, they can help by creating educational programs, advocating for inclusion and diversity, and working with the healthcare industry to ensure the well-being of professionals, especially novice competitive athletes seeking a change in life segment . .

Just as the NBA made its great transformation in the 1980s, going from a sports league to a mega sports and entertainment industry, we live in a perfect moment for the revolution of e-sports, which represent not only a form of fun, but also a powerful tool for inclusion and economic and social development.
