Mother and daughter invest R$100,000 in an environmental consultancy firm to “turn the tide” after the pandemic

Investments in technology represent approximately 50% of the company’s annual turnover

25 years of experience working in the waste market has meant that Susi Uhren’s 55-year-old environmental consultancy firm has survived the pandemic. But the brand’s turning point came last year, with a investment of R$ 100 thousand so that the company could position itself in a more technological way. In this case, one of those responsible for the “Generation Z” touch was his 20-year-old daughter Clara, who joined the team.

Susi and Clara run the company Singular Ambiental – which celebrates 15 years in business this year. With the large investment, which represented around 50% of the company’s annual revenue, Singular has already seen a 40% increase in revenue compared to last year. Most customers come from the Sao Paulo metropolitan area, but the idea is to expand services nationwide.

The company was created in 2009, when Clara was around 5 years old. To the Earth, explains that she has been immersed in environmental issues since she was little, accompanying her mother to the office and naturally taking an interest in the topic. She is currently communications coordinator at Singular Ambiental and studies journalism.

Mixing business with pleasure, it was when she was looking for her first job in the area that her mother needed reinforcement in the team and she started helping her. First on the technical side and then she followed her vocation in communication.

“A lot of things I was learning in college I connected to what I saw on the job and found an opening to relate one thing to another. Because, whether we like it or not, we work with sales, even if it is a service. And to be able to sell something you need visibility. And communication has something to do with this,” Clara believes.

This thought is in line with that of Susi, who in her lessons and orientation work always states that every profession a person chooses will be linked to the environment. “This is because all the activities we carry out have an impact on the environment.”

Thus, with the contribution made last year, she and her mother have invested in a visual identity, in the areas of social media, press office, website and in an environmental education platform – SingularON – aimed at both company representatives and to environmental enthusiasts.

Additionally, after existing in several formats, since the pandemic the company has begun operating in a anywhere in the office, that is, without physical thirst. In addition to the dynamism that benefits the company and other employees as a whole, the bond between mother and daughter is also strengthened on a personal level.

“We always got along. Our personalities are similar and we really enjoy working. So, when one or the other puts something in his head, it is to make it happen. Sometimes there’s some intrigue or whatever in the mother-daughter thing, but then that’s the job. She’s my boss and after hours she’s my mother. So we can share things well,” Clara guarantees.
