The new Dodge Charger debuts with an electric motor with up to 680 HP

With a look inspired by the Dodge Charger of the late ’60s, the new generation of the muscle car gains an electric motor but retains combustion options

The Dodge Charger has a new look. After years of waiting, the American automaker has finally revealed the new generation of its most iconic model. With two- or four-door versions and a retro look inspired by the Charger of the late 1960s, the new Dodge muscle car will have the option of electric motors up to 680 horsepower for the first time, to the dismay of more conservative fans.

It is basically a production version of the Dodge Charger Daytona EV concept presented in 2022. There are only a few subtle differences, such as conventionally shaped mirrors, the shape of the door handles and small changes in the design of the bumpers, headlights and lights rear.

The interior is also inspired by the first Charger. But the highlight is the digital instrument panel up to 16″ (on request, the display is 10.25″ as standard) and the 12.3″ multimedia center with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The interior is completed by the panoramic roof glass and ambient lighting system.with 64 color options.

Built on Stellantis Group’s STLA Large modular platform, the new Dodge Charger has grown. The model now measures 5.25 m long, 2.03 m wide and 1.50 m high. The wheelbase is 3.07 m. The new platform supports both combustion and electric engines, which is exactly the case with the new Dodge Charger.

The engine, in fact, is the biggest controversy of the new model. For the first time in history it is possible to purchase a 100% electric Dodge Charger. Initially available in two configurations – R/T and Scat Pack – both with the Daytona surname, the new electrified Charger will offer 462 hp in the R/T version (502 hp in Powershot 15s overboost mode) and 638 hp (679 hp with Powershot) at Scat Pack.

Both will have all-wheel drive. In the most powerful version, Dodge promises acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a quarter mile (400 m) in just 11.3 seconds. In the R/T version the top speed is electronically limited to 220 km/h. In any case, the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system is still present which generates an engine noise similar to the old Charger Hellcat through two radiators.

You can also recharge the batteries of the new Dodge Charger Daytona from 20% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes. The autonomy reaches up to 510 km in the R/T version. For 2025, Dodge plans to launch an even more powerful version: the Banshee, which will have up to 818 hp and an 800V architecture – the current ones are 400V.

And to please purists, Dodge will also offer a combustion version for the new Charger. However, instead of the old Hemi V8, the new generation will have a 3.0 twin-turbo inline-six engine with two power ranges: 426 hp and 557 hp. Both will have the Sixpack surname, 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

However, Dodge has not released any further specs on the new Charger Sixpack, which won’t arrive until 2025. What hasn’t been revealed are pricing. However, more information about the new Dodge Charger is expected to be released in the coming months, until production of the Daytona (electric) versions begins later this year.
