Brazil invites ambassador to Tel Aviv

AA / Bogota / Sinan Dogha

Brazilian media reported on Wednesday that their country’s government had summoned its ambassador to Tel Aviv, Federico Mayer, for “consultations” over Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.

According to the same source, the diplomatic mission of Brazil in Israel will continue to work at the level of plenipotentiary.

Local media reported, citing an unnamed senior Brazilian official, that the government “does not intend to appoint a new ambassador to Israel at this time.”

Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza since October 7 has killed and injured more than 117,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, and left nearly 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and starvation that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly.

Israel continues its war on the Gaza Strip, despite the large number of civilian casualties and despite the intention of the International Criminal Court to issue an international arrest warrant against its Prime Minister and Defense Minister for their involvement in “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” committed in Gaza.

Israel also ignores a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and instructing the International Court of Justice to take immediate steps to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
