Mass grave in Gaza: UN calls for ‘credible and independent’ investigation

AA / New York / Serife Cetin

The United Nations has expressed strong concern over reports of mass graves in Gaza and called for a “credible and independent” investigation.

“The new one is very disturbing,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said when asked about the discovery of a mass grave in the town of Khan Younes.

Dujarric stressed the need for a thorough and independent investigation into the areas where the graves were discovered, and also said that this clearly confirms the need for a ceasefire.

He also reiterated the importance of access for humanitarian workers, the protection of hospitals and the release of prisoners.

The Israeli army withdrew from Khan Yunis on April 7 after a four-month occupation of the land. After the withdrawal, a mass grave was discovered in the city and bodies were removed from the rubble of houses and roads.

The Palestinian national news agency WAFA reported that more than 190 bodies, including men and women, were found in mass graves in the Nasser hospital complex.
