Frank-Walter Steinmeier begins his visit to Turkey

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Istanbul on Monday, the first stop of his three-day visit to Turkey.

The German President was met by Istanbul Governor David Gul, German Ambassador to Ankara Jürgen Schultz, Turkish Ambassador to Berlin Ahmed Basar Sen and other officials.

In addition to Istanbul, Frank-Walter Steinmeier will travel to Gaziantep and Ankara for a visit to Turkey that is part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In Istanbul, the German president will meet representatives of economic, scientific, artistic, literary and sports circles, as well as non-governmental organizations.

On Tuesday, Frank-Walter Steinmeier will travel to Gaziantep, in southern Turkey, to visit an earthquake reception center and school, the construction of which was financed by Germany.

On Wednesday, the German president will meet his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
