Corinthians made their debut in the South American league with poor football and a draw in Uruguay

In the bad match in Montevideo, the Juventus team drew with Racing and demonstrated that they had made no progress after 19 days of just rest and training

Almost 20 days of training and rest alone were not enough for Corinthians to improve. The team simply played mediocre football and only drew with racingfrom Uruguay, on his debut onwards South American. In Montevideo, Yuri Alberto they had saved the team, but in the end the Uruguayans equalized and the match ended 1-1.

The Corinthians regrets the result, and he knows he will have to prove much more to return to being a protagonist this season. In their first competitive match after 19 days, António Oliveira’s team showed no progress. He was predictable, apathetic, exaggerated in passing errors, allowed a lot of space and found it very difficult to create against an opponent with obvious limitations.

The first half, in particular, was difficult to watch. Both teams handled the ball poorly and the game seemed more naked at times. Both overdid their shot attempts and, without the ability to think about the game, got rid of the ball.

The Uruguayan team scared Corinthians more than the other way around. Until Rodrigo Garro AND Yuri Alberto showed a flash of good football. The Argentine found the attacker free. He headed the ball and gave the visitors the lead early in the second half.

After the goal the game remained hot, which was good for Corinthians who, being lazy, did nothing but defend themselves. It turns out that coach Eduardo Espinel’s substitutions improved Racing, who ignored their limitations, launched themselves into attack and found spaces in Corinthians’ fragile defense.

The Uruguayan team found the net twice, but the first goal, scored by Varela, did not count because the midfielder was in an offside position and the goal was disallowed by VAR. Corinthians did not learn from their mistake and lost again. This time it was worth it. The beautiful plot involving Sosa’s elevation pass was completed by Alaniz with precision. Both had come off the bench a few minutes ago.

Corinthians tried to react, but all they did was make mistakes in their passes out of the defense and in their long balls into the attack. It will be a long and probably tough life for Corinthians fans in 2024.

OR stumbling on debut is worrying also because Argentino Juniors, the team that should fight with Corinthians for first place in group F, won its match. The Argentine team, therefore, has three points and is ahead in the group. The Brazilian team has one point, as does Racing. Nacional, from Paraguay, is zero.

The top teams at the end of the group stage will automatically qualify for the round of 16. The second-placed teams in each group will face the playoffs against the third-placed teams from the Libertadores groups.
