Vasco is looking for candidates to fill the position of sporting director

The club is in a hurry but wants to define Mattos’ replacement without desperation

Vasco remains without a sporting director following the dismissal of Alexandre Mattos. Ten days after the professional’s departure, the club is in negotiations with some names in the transfer market and wants to define the agenda immediately. Without making monetary follies and treating the issue with the due caution it deserves, the club understands that, at the moment, the command can remain in the hands of the trio formed by the CEO Lúcio Barbosa, observers and technical committee.

The idea is to move away from someone with a lot of fanfare, as happened with Mattos when he arrived at Cruz-Maltino. At that time, the coach began his career at Vasco after successful spells at Cruzeiro, Palmeiras and Atlético-MG and was celebrated by the fans as if he were a player.

Vasco understands that he must prioritize targets with a history of good relationships with the clubs they have been at, from the employees to the group of players. Compliance with SAF’s internal processes will also be included in the analysis. Mattos’ period in command was very turbulent, with communication problems with the three sectors mentioned.

For the new phase of Vasco, Alex Brasil, coach of Criciúma, is one of the names on the table. Another target studied is Admar Lopes, a Brazilian who holds the position of director of Bourdeaux in France.

CEO Lúcio Barbosa spoke to journalists last week and admitted he was keeping an eye on Vasco’s movements.

– Sure, let’s talk to the technical committee about reinforcements. Now I’m closer to that. […] We are talking to the technical committee for further reinforcements and we want to increase the productivity of the Vasco. – He explained.

As regards the opening of the transfer market, which will take place on an extraordinary basis from 1 to 19 April, the CBF regulation provides that Serie A and B clubs can register players who have competed in the state championships. Gigante da Colina does not depend on the announcement of a new member on the board to act and sign Brasileirão players.
