“We welcome the decision to declare the PKK a banned organization in Iraq,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

During his visit to Iraq, the Turkish head of state spoke during a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani in Baghdad on Monday.

Erdogan declared that he was satisfied with his visit to Iraq and specified that “the signed agreements represent a new turn in the relations between Turkey and Iraq”.

“We discussed the joint measures to be taken against the terrorist organization PKK and its consequences for the Turkish target from Iraqi territory,” he said.

And added: “The strategic framework agreement for joint cooperation that we signed with the Prime Minister of Iraq (Al-Sudan) is a solid road map,” the Turkish president said.

He noted that the two countries have decided to establish joint standing committees to ensure the continuation of technical negotiations and monitoring in many areas such as security, counter-terrorism, economy, trade, energy, transport, environmental protection, transboundary waters. , health and even education.

“We have a strong political will to improve relations with Iraq based on the principle of mutual respect and good neighborliness,” he added.

In addition, Erdogan said that he discussed with the Iraqi side the consequences of the atrocities committed by Israel in Palestine on the region.

The establishment of an independent, sovereign and geographically integrated Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is the key to peace in the region, the Turkish president reiterated.

“I want to repeat my call to all interested parties (Israel-Iran) to refrain from any escalation,” Erdogan emphasized.

After Baghdad, the Turkish president will travel to Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish region of northern Iraq.
