Clashes took place on Saturday in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, on the rue des Charrons, during a commemoration of those killed in the fire that broke out on April 7 and left three people dead.

In several videos circulating on social networks, we see cars being targeted, street furniture vandalized and smoke bombs.

“The situation returned to calm after about 20 minutes, all the demonstrators were dispersed by the police, who used intermediate means of self-defense (3 tear gas),” the Betting prefecture said on X.

When the rally was dispersed, “some demonstrators who remained there marched wildly, quickly blocked by police,” the prefecture explained. According to the same source, the authorities arrested four people who damaged the furniture.

The demonstration, which degenerated, was a mobilization in memory of those who died in the rue de Charonne fire on April 7, 2024, JDD reports.

According to Le Parisien, the tenant of the apartment in the fire is suspected to have shot dead two of his guests, including one of his Afghan roommates, before setting the parcel on fire. Three people were killed in this tragedy, for which a criminal investigation is in favor.

Far-right figures came forward to condemn these scenes of violence, with National Rally President Jordan Bardela X speaking of “Afghan demonstrations that will degenerate into riots in Paris”. Marion Mareschal, head of the European Reconquest list, also wrote
