WFP delivers fuel and wheat flour to bakeries in northern Gaza

AA / Istanbul / Raşa Evrensel

The World Food Program (WFP) announced on Sunday that it has started delivering fuel and wheat flour to bakeries in the northern Gaza Strip, 170 days after they stopped production.

This is what emerges from a message posted on Platform X to the UN WFP account.

“Our teams are providing fuel and wheat flour to bakeries in the northern part of the Gaza Strip to allow them to resume production after 170 days of interruption,” WFP added.

According to the same source, three bakeries have so far been able to resume operations, and WFP teams are urgently working to transport other supplies.

Israel is launching a deadly military offensive against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, after a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas killed up to 1,200 people, according to authorities in Tel Aviv.

Since then, 34,097 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and 76,980 others injured in Gaza amid widespread destruction and shortages of basic necessities.

Israel’s war has forced 85% of Gaza’s population to move inside the territory due to lack of food, drinking water and medicine, and 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.

Israel is being prosecuted at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the crime of genocide. The order, issued in January, ordered Tel Aviv to end acts of a genocidal nature and to take the necessary measures to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.
