Toyota will invest R$11 billion and have new cars in Brazil

Confirmed by Toyota, the new investment cycle will last until 2030 and includes two new cars and the production of hybrid engines in Brazil

Now it’s official. Toyota has announced an investment of 11 billion reais in Brazil until 2030. The confirmation came the day after the vice president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), published the car manufacturer’s plans on his X (formerly Twitter) profile Japanese. Toyota will produce hybrid engines and have new models in the country, including the Yaris Cross and the possible Corolla pickup.

In a statement released to the press, Toyota considers the announcement “the most important in the brand’s 66-year history in Brazil”. The contribution follows the guidelines of the policies of Nova Indústria Brasil and Mover and will expand the production capacity of the automaker in the country, which will focus on the plants in Sorocaba (SP) and Porto Feliz (SP).

“We are very pleased to be able to expand our local production, export throughout the region and thus generate and distribute more value for the whole society, in the form of jobs and economic development,” says Rafael Chang, CEO of Toyota for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Of this figure, R$5 billion has already been confirmed until 2026 and includes the production of a new compact and flexible hybrid vehicle, already announced last year and whose production is scheduled for 2025. This would be the emerging version of the SUV Yaris Cross, which has is already offered in Asian countries.

Furthermore, Toyota has also confirmed the production of another model with the same technology, developed specifically for Brazil. Although the brand does not reveal what the new car will be, there are rumors indicating the possibility of a pick-up version of the Corolla Cross, which would be the size of a Fiat Toro and could have a design inspired by the EPU concept.

The new investments will also allow the expansion of the Toyota plant in Sorocaba (SP), which currently produces the Corolla Cross models, as well as the Yaris Hatch and Sedan. And from 2025, the production activities of Indaiatuba (SP) – where the Corolla sedan is produced – will be moved there.

Possible Toyota Corolla Cross pickup

In 2026, the unit will also begin assembling batteries for the Japanese brand’s hybrid cars. The Porto Feliz (SP) engine factory will begin assembling the engine for the hybrid system – currently imported – starting next year. In total, Toyota expects to generate at least 2,000 new direct jobs and up to 10,000 indirect jobs.
