Covered California sign-up deadline extended

Because of what it termed a “dramatic spike” in traffic, Covered California announced late Monday that it would extend the March 31 deadline to enroll in a health insurance plan. But the extension has certain limitations.

Covered California has confirmed the Monday deadline for Californians who have not signed up for health care coverage.

Covered California, the state's health insurance exchange, experienced a high volume of users, leading to a sluggish website and long wait times as consumers make their final enrollment dash to avoid a tax penalty. Midnight Monday marks the enrollment 

California officials say they are seeing a late surge in the number of people signing up for health insurance coverage ahead of next week's deadline — and they are encouraging more people to apply.
