It met the definition of a major one, but the magnitude-7.2 earthquake that struck Friday in southern Mexico's Guerrero state didn't land the kind of punch that it might have. A 7.2 magnitude quake struck in southern Mexico 

Guerrero is a state in southern Mexico near the coast. It's close to the beach resort Acapulco. There are no reports of major damage, but the earthquake sent people into the streets and shook buildings, according to Reuters.
